Heaven's Handyman

My grandpa is a worker. He is a laborer, and almost lives outside wearing his beaten up ball caps. But his work doesn't take away from family time. If he needs to do something outside, but wants to be with family, he'll take them out with him. Heck, he even made a go-kart track near his house for his goofy grand-kids to entertain themselves on. We crashed a few times, but no worries. It won't take long for him to fix the vehicle. My grandpa is a lover. He always greets me with a "How's my girl?" and a huge smile when I walk into the room, and doesn't seem to mind when I about tackle him with a hug. He also doesn't seem to mind when my siblings and I steal a couple of his Twizzlers and square cookies Grandma makes him. My grandpa has a great sense of humor. He's quiet, but pretty much every comment he makes puts a smile on my face because it's always funny. For example, he told me this one day while we were waiting for our food at a restaurant on a Sunday morning.
"Hey Keeli, have you heard of the book Under the Bleachers?"
"Um.. no?" I answered, pretty confused by the question.
His reply is what made me about pee my pants. "Oh that's too bad. Well the author is Seemore Butts."
We laughed together for a little while and then he told me another joke, similar to that one.
"Oh hey, maybe you've heard of the book Yellow River."
With a grin I said, "No, I don't think I have."
"Oh. It's written by Ipee Freely."
Sometimes it's his jokes, and sometimes it's him mocking his dear wife a little bit. Grandma just giggles right along, but never forgets to slap him first. Really, she's a pretty good sport about it. My grandpa is a believer. His work and stress never seems to distract him from the things that really matter the most. He has his priorities straight. God first, no matter what. It's because of this that I look up to him as a role model.. he has all the qualities I want to have someday.
My grandpa went to heaven this year. After going through a couple surgeries like a champ, the doctors said there wasn't much time. It was rough for my family to see this awesome guy have to leave, but there is no doubt in my mind that he is doing all the things he wanted to in heaven because of his rock solid faith. My grandpa wanted to work. And be the handyman that he was. And now he is. Although I sometimes wish that I still had my loving buddy around, I know that heaven gained a guy that is loving every minute up there with God. Yes, my grandpa was a worker and still is. He's just upgraded. To heaven's handyman.
